Summer is a-coming in and winter and spring offered me lots of opportunities to enjoy the woods, meadows, mountains and coast. Here are a mix of photographs taken early in 2015, from Yosemite, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, the Birch Aquarium in San Diego, "Indians" and Big Sur, etc. Thanks for looking around!
Never a dull moment between walking around Santa Cruz neighborhoods, borrowing my friend Shalom's art car while looking for another one as mine is dying, heading to the Monterey Aquarium for its free day, stopping near Highway 101 above Sausalito at twilight... Come to my show at the Louden Nelson Center, during the month of February, 2014! (301 Center Street, Santa Cruz; 420-6177- A First Friday reception will take place on Friday Feb. 7th. from 6-8pm. ). -------------------------------------------------------------------- I'd love to hear which photos you like best on this site, and/or any questions you have! Sunshine and Drought in January on the Central Coast of California...The inland valleys are full of migrating birds, hawks, and muted tones in the wetlands. Meanwhile the coast has experienced sunbathing weather in the 70's with nearly non-stop sunshine, gleaming ocean waves and colorful sunsets...
Above are some photographs of clothes/textiles I've modified during the past year or two, using "shibori", tie dye, discharge dyeing, rust dyeing, etc...All of the clothing started as a single solid color; the pieces were then immersed in dyes or mostly in diluted bleach, after applying stitching, rubber banding and thread tying, and clamping with clothes pegs, and/or wrapping around pvc pipe with lots of string or thread....Many types of "shibori" or resist techniques...some have glass "pebbles" wrapped with rubber bands....With the bleach it is always a surprise to see what colors emerge. I hope you enjoy these! I've also given away some pieces, and when they are worn and enjoyed by friends it feels really good! There are lots of websites including youtube ones with how-to information...and classes too... |
